Functional Art

“I want a coat rack that looks like art when it’s not in use”

These are the types of projects that I love to get. This checked so many boxes for me as a creator: creative esthetic, function and form, and spy-like function. Who doesn’t love a “looks like this, but is actually this” piece of art?

Have you ever looked at a piece of wood and got excited about what’s to come?

No? Just me, huh? When I saw these pieces of lumber milled down and cut to size, I could see what was to come. The grain alone on the maple in the center was enough to get me excited. I couldn’t wait to see the finished product.

The finished piece spoke for itself.

Everything from the layout, to the grain match, to the “hidden feature” was perfect. From time to time. I to get to see this piece in person, and it still brings a smile to my face.
