Rebuilt “Memories” Table Base

“The movers destroyed our table base.”

When the client said these words to me, my first thought was, “Oh, this will be a quick little repair job.” Then I was sent the picture. “No Matt, the base is destroyed. So what can be done about it?” In this instance it wasn’t building a whole piece, just replacing what was broken. The clients shared with me the fact that this was meant to be a table passed down to one of their kids, who apparently fight over “who gets the table” at most family get togethers. This table carried memories of their kids first meals, laughter over Christmas Eve Chinese food, and friends who have become family breaking bread together. Simply put, this wasn’t a table to be replaced. It was a memory to be repaired. So, what could be done about it?

We provided multiple design options, and they landed on something updated, yet timeless.

We went with solid oak to match the top, and decided to bring a little flair to the design with angled legs and a through tenon stretcher. Color matching was a bit of a trial and error, but we nailed the color match in the end.
What I love most about this piece is that I was able to be a part of saving the thing that already held so many memories. Now this table will have even more stories told around it, and will be passed down for generations to come as those stories grow and more memories are made.
